12 DAYS MT. KENYA/ KAKAMEGA/ MAASAI MARA

12 DAYS MT. KENYA/ KAKAMEGA/ MAASAI MARADay 1- Nairobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met and transferred to a city hotel booked on bed and breakfast.

Day 2- Mt. Kenya- Mountain Lodge
Image After breakfast  and a briefing by a lecturer from our local University you will drive through the highlands toward Mt Kenya. Those interested in nature can visit the nearby Mau Mau caves used by our freedom fighters to hide during Kenya’s struggle for freedom from colonial rule. The walk takes 3 hours both ways from Mountain Rock Lodge. After the walk continue to Mt Kenya National Park arriving in good time for lunch at Mountain Lodge Tree Hotel. The lodge is situated deep in the forest. As you take 4 o’clock tea/ coffee the resident naturalist will give a lecture on the ecology, history and wildlife of Mount Kenya National Park. Through out the day and night forest animals visit the waterhole and saltlick, to ensure you many exciting moments. Dinner and overnight at the Mountain Lodge Tree Hotel.

Day 3- Mt Kenya- Mountain Lodge.
All day at Mountain Lodge booked on full board as you watch wild animals visit the water hole all day and night.

Day 4- Aberdares
After breakfast leave for The Ark situated in the heart of Aberdares via the Aberdares Country Club where you will have lunch. Through out the day and night forest animals visit the Yasabara floodlit waterhole and saltlick ensuring you many exciting moments. You may request the staff  to wake you up with the help of a buzzer when rare animals visit the salt lick. Please note that children below the age of seven are not allowed.

Day 5-Lake Nakuru
After breakfast on your way to Nakuru stop at the Outspan Hotel and enjoy a cultural experience of the Kikuyu people. This is a presentation done by authentic Kikuyu people who will take you through their rites of passage, a great live performance of song and dance as well as sampling various dishes prepared by this community. Arrive at the lodge for a late lunch. Afternoon game drives. It is possible to see other game such as Rhino, Waterbucks,  Impala, Buffalo and Gazelle not forgetting the beautiful flamingoes. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge.

Day 6 -Lake Baringo National Reserve.
After breakfast drive north through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Baringo arriving at Lake Baringo Country Club in time for lunch. After lunch enjoy a boatride and see the  birds in their hundreds as well as their  hatcheries. Visit the Jemps community and request if you would like to take pictures. Dinner and overnight at Baringo Country Club

Day 7-Lake Bogoria
After breakfast take a ride to see the hot geysers and Hot Springs. Caution must be taken while walking near the Hot Springs as they are super hot. Return to Lake  Baringo Country Club for lunch, dinner bed and breakfast.

Day 8-Kakamega Forest
After an early morning breakfast, drive across the breath-taking scenery of Kerio valley, up the Nandi Escarpment to Eldoret Town. After lunch, proceed with the safari to Kakamega Forest, one of the rare tropical rain forests in East Africa: hiking along nature trails, taking in soaring sights and sounds. Kakamega Forest is home to about 330 species of birds; 400 species of butterflies {which make about 45% of all butterfly types in Kenya}; 480 plant species, out of which 45 are medicinal; and 33 types of snakes. The Red and Blue tailed Monkey can also be seen. Well qualified local naturalists and conservation activists are available to ensure interests are taken care of and questions answered. Dinner and overnight at the Rondo Retreat Center.

Day 9- Kakamega Forest
Another full day in this beautiful forest and there are many exciting things to see and do in this forest like for example, hiking along nature trails, taking in soaring sights. Watch over 60 species of orchids, African species of butterflies, hundred bird species like the Great Blue Turaco, and the black-white Casqued Hornbill and also observe the monkey family Well-qualified local guides are available to ensure interests are well taken care of. Dinner and overnight at the Retreat Center.

Day 10 and 11 -Maasai Mara
Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve. The Mara forms the northern section of the Serengeti Plains and it is here that one gazes in amazement at the rolling hills and plains of the African landscape. Lunch at the lodge and enjoy a late afternoon gamedrive which are scheduled to allow  maximum opportunity to photograph the abundant wildlife in this seemingly limitless game reserve. The optional dawn hot air balloon safari will give you a bird’s eye view of Mara plains  and the winding Mara and Taleki rivers before landing for a magnificent  champagne breakfast  at Mara Serena Lodge

Day 12-    Nairobi
After breakfast start your journey back to Nairobi stopping in curio markets for souvenir shopping.
