Nairobi National Park | Kenya Wildlife Safari Travel
There was a time not so long ago, when lions roamed the streets of Nairobi. Nowadays they can be found only 14 kilometres from the city center in Nairobi National Park. This small park contains most of the animals to be seen on more extended safaris such as the rhino, buffalo, cheetah, zebra, giraffe and plenty of antelopes and gazelles.
Nairobi National Park is a park with a difference. Located within the boundaries of Nairobi city, it is possible to photograph a rhino, lion, cheetah and many more wildlife browsing peacefully among the whistling acacia trees with tall office buildings in the background. This protected game reserve extends into Maasai land through the unfenced southern boundary.
A diversity of environments such as open grass plains with scattered acacia bushes, a highland dry forest, a permanent river with a riverine forest, long grass, rocky valleys and man-made dams that provide a suitable habitat for certain bird species characterizes the park.
The Park has been designated as a rhino sanctuary where more than 50 rhino’s have been moved into the park from remote parts of the country where poaching was rife. If you love rhino’s, Nairobi National Park is the most favored place in the country to see them. This wonderful park is probably the only park within a city and Kenya’s oldest park.
